Sun City Community Information

Sun City offers several advantages over more recently developed retirement communities in the area. Local property taxes are substantially lower compared to similar communities, and the breadth of services and amenities available to residents is much larger. There are 16 shopping centers, many restaurants and local businesses to serve residents? needs. In addition, residents have access to Sun City?s own Sun Health Boswell Memorial Hospital, as well as several other medical complexes within 10 miles.

At one of seven recreation facilities, residents can take part in a number of sports and activities. These include swimming, roller skating, tennis, racquetball, softball, basketball, billiards and more. With over 300 clubs catering to different interests, social activity in Sun City is strong, even off the golf course. Residents also enjoy their community?s proximity to professional sports games; the Arizona Cardinals (NFL), Arizona Diamondback (MLB) and Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) all hold home games less than 10 miles from Sun City. In addition, four more MLB teams hold spring training programs in Phoenix.

Art enthusiasts will love the selection of performances and exhibits available to them. The Sun City Sun Bowl hosts live music performances by the Symphony of the West Valley and other top-name entertainers. Some of the local entertainment groups include the Sun City Concert Band, Sun City Chamber Orchestra, Sun City Players Community Theatre and Sun Cities Symphonic Chorus. Arizona State University?s Sundome Center for the Performing Arts is located in Sun City West, just on the other side of the Agua Fria River. The Sundome also hosts performances and plays throughout the year.

The fine arts can be enjoyed at Sun Cities Museum of Art. The museum displays a variety of collections and guest exhibits. The permanent collection includes American and Asian artwork and ethnic clothing. A museum store and tearoom are also onsite.

Street maintenance and law enforcement to Sun City is provided by Maricopa County. These efforts are supplemented by local volunteer organizations, including the Sheriff Posse of Sun City and Sun City Pride.
